Young adult parishioner Eva Cavanaugh of Parsippany, New Jersey, recently completed her
Girl Scout Gold Award. For her project, she formed an organization called
Book It To Appalachia in which she collected and distributed children's books to impoverished families in Preston County, West Virginia. She also created a library in a second grade classroom at a school in the area.
She felt that it was an overwhelmingly rewarding experience to see the children's pure joy as they received some of their very first books to call their own. This project will be sustained by providing a "pipeline" of books from New Jersey to West Virginia through her organization
Book It To Appalachia.
Eva has been a Girl School since kindergarten. She was in Troop 2226 of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey. She is a 2015 graduate of Parsippany Hills High School and is now a freshman at Villanova University.
