Lenten Soup & Fellowship is a welcoming ministry providing an opportunity for all of us in our parish to “journey” in fellowship through the special season of Lent.
In that light, each Friday during Lent (excedpt for Good Friday), 5:30pm to 7:30pm in our Parish Hall, parish family and community friends come together – all ages, all generations, all status -- and share a cup(s) of delicious soup, bread and water, while enjoying the love and fellowship of our community of faith. It is undoubtedly a wonderful gift for all to gather over a “humble” meal, to chat with old friends and also make new ones!
Those who come to enjoy the evening of soup and fellowship are asked to make a free will offering (there will be a donation box on a table as one enters the Parish Hall). Donations are passed on to other organizations who help the less fortunate.
How it works…
A few weeks preceding Lent, our ministry sets up a “Lenten Soup & Fellowship” table in our Gathering Space and asks members of the parish to “sign up” at the table, to make a good size pot of meatless soup on a given Friday. We usually need 10-12 soup makers for each Friday. We also ask loving volunteers to sign up to help set-up and/or clean-up on a given Friday.
Teens from our Confirmation Program are big supporters of our ministry and share in the soup-serving duties each Friday. This is an opportunity for the young people in our parish to experience the blessings of serving in ministry while fulfilling their Confirmation commitments to community service.
Interested in helping out?
Stay tuned! We will make regular announcements in our parish bulletin to let you know when we start the sign ups to help with our Lenten Soup & Fellowship. If you can make a good pot of delicious meatless soup or donate bread & butter for one or more of our Lenten Soup & Fellowhip Fridays, please sign up at the table in our Gathering Space. We ask you to also keep in mind the following “soup making” hints:
