About Children's Liturgy...
The mission of our ministry is to deliver "child friendly" liturgy for children (ages 4 to 12), during Sunday's 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM masses (except for the first Sunday of the month and during the Summer months).
The liturgy delivered to the children by our Faith Leaders is the same one the congreagation hears, but from the Children's Lectionary. The readings are explained in a way children understand, while enhancing their knowledge, understanding and love for the Word.
Prior to the Liturgy of the Word, children are called to the Altar where they are given a special blessing by the Priest or Deacon, and are then led by a Faith Leader to a separate gathering room behind the Altar, where they are ministered to the liturgy for that day. The children are led back by the Faith Leader to the worship space after the homily and conclude the Mass rituals along with the congregation.
About our Faith Leaders...
Our Faith Leaders are adult volunteers (parents, grandparents, relatives, friends, young adults), who enjoy working with children and who are committed and have a passion to pass on the gift of the Word to our children. Faith Leaders are encouraged to be creative, use props, or rely on other appropriate means (i.e. skits) to deliver the message for that day.
The current number of Faith Leaders in the ministry rotate so that each member (or team) is assigned about once every six weeks.
Are you called to be a Faith Leader in this ministry? We would love to have you! Please contact Diane Byrne at 973-538-1358, ext. 111, or via email at dbyrne@ndcarmel.com.
