At all Masses this weekend, we launched the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Every liturgy included a moving video (“I am a Voice”) designed to convey the scope of the need for mercy around our world, with a short, related homily following. Mercy-themed music was incorporated into the liturgy, a Year of Mercy flyer appeared in the bulletin, and Year of Mercy Mass cards were distributed to parishioners as they left the church. New banners were raised in the gathering space to honor the year, proclaiming the theme, “A Conversion of Our Hearts.”
The Jubilee Year officially begins on December 8 with Pope Francis opening the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. and will extend until the Feast of Christ the King on November 20, 2016.
Throughout this special year, we will support and encourage each other in bringing the works of mercy alive here at Notre Dame and beyond!
