Each of these faithful deacons has left his unique mark on the parish family of Notre Dame during the past 15 years. In addition to their presence on the altar at weekend Masses, Deacons Vic and Joe have enriched our parish culture through their special charisms, fueled by a love and concern for their parish family.
For many years, Deacon Vic and Nancy Lupi have overseen the FOCCUS evaluation process for engaged couples. They have also been actively involved in facilitating small group faith-sharing during Lent (“Follow Me”). Deacon Vic fulfills the vital role of meeting with families who have experienced the loss of a loved one, comforting them as he assists in planning funeral liturgies and conducting wake services for the grieving families. Nancy’s presence in the choir stall at 10:30 every Sunday is one of her own special contributions to our weekend experience here at Notre Dame.
Deacon Joe and his wife, Karen, both have a deeply-rooted love of and commitment to social justice outreach to the poor and marginalized. They and their family were the “engine” that started our annual trips to Appalachia, forming our first social justice ministry, Operation Appalachia. They also spearheaded relief trips to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. In addition, Deacon Joe has visited the poor in Haiti, where our parish sponsored the building of Notre Dame Village after devastating hurricanes hit the island.
We join in congratulations and a profound sense of thanksgiving for these two special deacons and their wives. We love and are grateful for your presence and for all you are contributing to our journey of parish renewal!
