It might seem like COVID-19 literally pulled the rug from under our feet. As parish leaders and disciples, and given the current limitations, we have been challenged to consider how we might continue fulfilling our mission of bringing others into a (deeper) relationship with Jesus. Here are some examples of how our community is responding:
- A pause in a particular ministry (i.e. Performing Arts) has redirected members to focus on other more pressing ministry needs (i.e. outreach to those in need of food, grocery shopping, etc.).
- In a number of instances, ministry leaders have adapted to new methods (i.e. virtual gatherings vs. physical ones in the church facilities).
- A desire to strengthen and comfort our community has brought about new ministry opportunities (i.e. elder parishioner phone call outreach, Virtual Praying of the Rosary, etc.).
- The circumstances (i.e. not able to go to work, children not able to go to school, elderly parents in need of additional support, caregiving needs of loved ones, etc.) have for many placed an increased focus on the mission within in our own homes: the Domestic Church.
- Several others continue bringing Christ to others through their work which for many happens to be in the front lines as first responders in this crisis.
Whether within the context of our homes, ministries at Notre Dame, or ministries in service of others beyond the walls of our parish, our open hearts invite the Holy Spirit to enter into our circumstances, renew our methods, or redirect our focus as needed, as we continue on the mission entrusted to us by Jesus: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Mt 28:19-20
